Mail OTP

Signicat’s Mail OTP is a simple identification method based on one-time passwords sent by email. A typical scenario may look like this:

  1. A user accesses a service that requires some sort of identification
  2. The merchant providing the service sends an email with a one-time password to the user
  3. The user types the password in the merchant’s application
  4. The merchant receives the user’s email in the response from Signicat

Although this method alone does not provide a high level of security, there are no technical obstacles that prevent merchants from using Mail OTP as a standalone authentication method. However, the most common and recommended use is to use it to boost an existing login process. Integrating Mail OTP in any username/password login solution will result in a 2-factor authentication method.
