Blue Sky Group simplifies participant portal login with one connection for DigiD and eIDAS
Blue Sky Group (BSG) needed a stronger way to authenticate users in its participant portals, especially those who couldn’t use DigiD. By using Signicat as its identification provider, BSG now runs DigiD and eIDAS through a single connection, with centralised administration in one portal.

Challenge
BSG had two user groups to support:
- Users who can log in with DigiD
- Users who can’t use DigiD
For the second group, BSG relied on username/password, which they considered not secure enough to accept changes to a participant’s pension record. They wanted to add eIDAS login to cover these users with an appropriate level of security, without adding unnecessary complexity to their setup.
Solution
BSG selected Signicat as the supplier for eIDAS login.
During a 2023 re-platforming of the participant portal environment, BSG also started using Signicat’s DigiD service. Instead of maintaining separate approaches (a direct DigiD connection via Logius and a separate eIDAS setup), BSG moved to one integration via Signicat to support both login methods.
This gave BSG:
- A single, stable login setup for DigiD and eIDAS
- One place to manage and maintain the connections
Result
With Signicat in place, BSG reports:
- Stable login connectivity for its participant portals
- Less setup effort, since they didn’t need to build and manage their own DigiD connection in the new environment
- Simplified certificate handling, using one PKI certificate per customer
- Better day-to-day administration through the new Signicat portal, which BSG calls “a big improvement”
