How trust and drive transform a blank canvas into a digital identity breakthrough
"At the intersection of passion and creativity lies the most meaningful work." For Peter Weber, Senior Product Owner at Signicat, this philosophy defines his career. From spearheading the innovative Mint platform to maintaining meaningful connections with his remote team, Peter exemplifies the balance of purpose, adaptability, and collaboration.
–“When the work matters, even the challenges feel fulfilling. And when each member of a team shares that same drive, it’s magic."
14 Years of Building, Learning, and Leading
Peter’s career began in a small software company on the outskirts of Berlin. Starting in customer support, he quickly took on multiple responsibilities, eventually transitioning into product management. Over 14 years, he led two key software solutions, managed high-profile client relationships, and amassed a wealth of industry knowledge.
“That time was crucial for me,” Peter reflects. “I’ve always been curious and eager to learn, and those years allowed me to explore countless facets of technology. They laid the groundwork for everything I do today.”
By 2021, Peter was ready to seek a role where he could apply his experience at scale, embrace fresh challenges, and make a genuine impact. That’s where Signicat came in.
–“From the start, I recognised Signicat as a place where collaboration wasn’t just encouraged—it was deeply ingrained."
From Berlin to Bergen—Seeking Change, Finding Innovation
Life in Berlin’s fast-paced tech scene taught Peter persistence and resilience. Yet he and his wife longed for a new environment. “The opportunity at Signicat, combined with our personal dream of moving to Norway, made it feel like a leap that truly mattered.”
Signicat’s culture sealed the deal. “From the start, I recognised a place where collaboration wasn’t just encouraged—it was deeply ingrained. That kind of environment doesn’t just make work enjoyable; it makes remarkable achievements possible.”
“Berlin’s constant hum shaped my work ethic, but Bergen offered clarity,” he says. “It felt like a leap worth taking. Two years on, I know it was the right decision.”
Bergen provided Peter with the ultimate duality—career growth set against a backdrop of inspiration. Waking up to Bergen’s mountain landscapes now sets the tone for his most innovative workdays.
–“When you know your work—whether big or small—is making a difference, even routine tasks feel meaningful.”
Beyond Established Paths—Shaping the Future of Digital Identity at Signicat
At Signicat, Peter discovered the chance to contribute to a rapidly evolving field—digital identity. “It’s such an exciting space,” he notes. “I saw an opportunity to help shape its future rather than simply follow established paths.”
As a Senior Product Owner, variety defines Peter’s role. “No two days are the same,” he says. “One moment, I’m deep in Jira, organising tasks. The next, I’m brainstorming new breakthrough technical solutions with developers or talking to customers. It’s incredibly satisfying when you know every contribution counts.”
“When you know your work—whether big or small—is making a difference, even routine tasks feel meaningful.”
Signicat’s culture plays a crucial role in enabling Peter to thrive. “What excites me most about working here is the freedom and trust to make decisions. You’re encouraged to take ownership and try new things, knowing that mistakes are part of the process,” he shares.
–“We don’t just collaborate—we create an environment where mistakes are opportunities. When everyone feels safe to share ideas or even missteps, it sparks creativity and builds trust.”
The Power of Team Connections—Beyond Borders
Behind Mint’s success is the powerhouse team driving it forward. With members working remotely from across Europe—spanning Bergen, Bucharest, and Vilnius among others—collaboration fuels their output.
Working with a team dispersed across multiple countries, he emphasises the importance of connection. “We work remotely most of the time, but we’re in constant contact and meet up when we can,” he says. “When you trust your colleagues and value different perspectives, it’s amazing how much you can achieve.”
Peter describes their approach: “It’s about fostering both productivity and trust. Developers appreciate focus, so we minimise unnecessary meetings and interruptions. But we also prioritise meaningful personal connections. Whether it’s sharing casual conversations during virtual meetings or getting together annually, we value what makes us human.”
During their recent in-person retreat, the team not only planned the next steps for Mint but also strengthened their bond over social evenings. “That personal layer makes critical feedback much easier to accept. When you know someone respects you as a person, you’re more receptive to constructive ideas—it strengthens the entire process.”
–“Great decisions emerge when we admit we might not have all the answers.”
Ego-Free Collaboration—Fostering Trust and Team Success
One of Peter’s greatest teamwork lessons is the power of humility. “Great decisions emerge when we admit we might not have all the answers,” he says. “Leaving your ego at the door is essential.”
This openness is woven into Signicat’s DNA. “We don’t just collaborate—we create an environment where mistakes are opportunities. When everyone feels safe to share ideas or even missteps, it sparks creativity and builds trust,” he explains. “That leads to better decisions and stronger results.”
After all, “the best ideas come from listening to others and being open to different perspectives,” he adds.
Roller Skates and the Art of Balance—A Life Beyond Work
For Peter, balance means shutting down his laptop and heading outdoors. “Hiking in Norway’s mountains clears my mind and puts everything into perspective,” he says. “It helps me return to work refreshed.”
But there’s another surprising passion: Roller Derby.
As a referee, Peter has travelled to over 20 countries and even officiated the Roller Derby World Cup. “It’s a unique sport with a community that’s taught me so much about connection and adaptability.”
Signicat supports this holistic approach. “The flexibility here makes a huge difference. Having the freedom to manage my time helps me bring my best self to both work and life outside it.”
