Santander Consumer Bank chooses Signicat for online identities and eSignatures

Santander Consumer Bank uses eID for online creditcard applications

Santander Consumer Bank AS is owned by Santander Consumer Finance, which is a part of Grupo Santander (one of the world’s five largest financial institutions). Santander Consumer Bank implements self-service solutions for its financial products and services. Using eID for electronic signatures is one way of making banking products more accessible, while reducing costs at the same time.

One of the first areas of application for eID was online creditcard applications. Santander Consumer Bank launched a service that allows all Nordic customers with a valid eID apply for Santander’s creditcards online. The service is available in Norway and Finland, to start with, and customers can use the Norwegian BankID and the Finnish TUPAS to electronically sign the credit agreement.

Electronic signatures replace ink and pen and allows the customer to sign contracts online without having to be present at a specific place presenting any physical means of identification. This reduces costs and makes Santander’s financial products more accessible.

Signicat makes it possible for Santander to use electronic IDs from many different providers without having to change their own web portal. They chose the Signicat solution after careful consideration.
