Signicat AS and Media Transfer AG are launching the first web-based high-availability solution for eID in Germany. This ensures that Signicat will be well placed to get a substantial share of a market hoping to reach 60 million users in just a few short years. The solution will be available from June 2011.
– This is a milestone for Signicat and our springboard out of the Nordic region. We get access to an enormous market, and we have the advantage of being one of the first providers on the market. We hope our solution will reach a great number of people as soon as it’s launched, says Arne Vidar Haug, Business Manager at Signicat.
Germany is facing Europe’s biggest eID deployment to date. Up to 60 million people will start using these solutions in the next few years. eID solutions reduce online threats, offer simple procedures for authentication, and allow customers to feel confident that their transactions are safe. The terms and conditions applying to eIDs are as stringent as those applied to passports, driver’s licences or creditcards. The advantages are that eIDs are quicker, cost less and are simple to roll out.
Signicat has a large and varied portfolio of customers in the banking, finance, insurance and eTrade industries. Its solutions safeguards online services, prevent identity theft and streamlines processes for providers and customers alike. The company has supplied services to many of the largest ID projects, and is used by Norway Post, among others, to secure Digipost, the new digital mailbox. Signicat’s most important service is the web-based electronic ID solution that can be implemented with no local installation. This makes the integration with the existing IT infrastructure very simple, and the solution supports ID management applications from all major providers, such as IBM, Microsoft, CA and Oracle (Sun).
Signicat and Media Transfer’s solution is based on mtG eID, the company’s electronic ID server solution, and Signicat’s web-based service for identity management. This means customers can easily access the new German identity cards through a high-availability configuration. Other advantages include users being able to use their eIDs in other markets across Europe, being able to log in safely through the browser and long-term storage of signed and submitted documents.
– German businesses and private individuals will be well placed to adopt eSignature and encryption for safe transactions. This means businesses can operate more efficiently, processing various reports will be quicker and easier and procedures for submitting reports and signing documents will be much simpler, says Haug.
– We aim to be the best and most comprehensive provider of complete and user-friendly solutions for online identification. We achieve this by supporting all major standards in the market. This agreement allows us to gain an even bigger international presence, says Haug.
